Appraisals: A two-way street and an opportunity to improve

The thought of opening yourself up to feedback from staff might be scary to some, but it's an important part of running a successful operation.

Managers carrying out staff appraisals should be open to receiving feedback as well as giving it, according to Sheringham Golf Club's General Manager Paul Adams.

Adams has given his staff a platform to share their thoughts by undertaking a '360 report', whereby they can offer up their views on his performance.

It has proven to be a popular move, with all parties benefitting from a more open and honest system that ensures appraisals are a two-way street.

"I used to work in the corporate hotel golf market where we had this very generic feedback form," Adams explains....
