GCMA 2023 Conference: New Manager of the Year awards categories announced

Along with a revamped judging process, three new categories have been added to the prestigious prizes, whose winners will be revealed at the GCMA 2023 Conference

The GCMA Manager of the Year Awards are the centrepiece of the second day of GCMA 2023 Conference, which is being held at Hinckley Island hotel, in Leicestershire, from November 12-14.

Two years ago at Wyboston Lakes, Bognor Regis’ general manager James Maclean claimed the Manager of the Year prize, while Lincoln’s Louis Booth was Newcomer of the Year and Seacroft were named Team of the Year.

This year’s edition will again reward the very best successes in our industry and we’re sure to hear some inspirational stories in the expanded awards.

In addition to the existing categories of Manager, Newcomer and Team of the Year, the 2023 awards will see three new categories, which are designed to acknowledge the breadth, variety and longevity of contributions to our industry:

  • Support Manager of the Year
  • Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Outstanding Contribution Award

The Support Manager of the Year is open to anybody in a second-in-command position and the Lifetime Achievement Award will recognise the outstanding management and leadership of an individual throughout their career and in particular their role as a golf club manager.

The GCMA Outstanding Contribution Award will recognise a member who has demonstrated and been recognised by the industry and association for going above and beyond with their involvement with other aspects of the industry, their colleagues or the GCMA itself.

As well as the new categories, the 2023 Manager of the Year awards will see a revamped judging process, designed to deliver an even more robust, comprehensive and consistent assessment than previous years.

GCMA CEO Tom Brooke said:

“We’re delighted to announce new Awards categories, which are designed to acknowledge team work, personal development and contribution to the GCMA community and the industry as a whole. I think this is a great step forward for us and provides us with a wonderful opportunity to celebrate not just the outstanding personal achievements that so many of our members demonstrate every day, but also some of the incredible work that goes on within the association as a whole and the many successes that our members have had throughout their careers in so many different ways.”

Details of the nomination process for the 2023 edition will be released soon, and nominations will open in July.
