The new initiative offers 6-month work placements - with 100% of salary, uniform and training costs funded through the Governments “Kickstart” initiative. The scheme is being managed by the Southampton-based group's Senior Case Manager, Richard Pilbury. He's a former general manager with more than 20 years' experience in the industry. Using his know how of managing Golf Clubs, and the resources of the LSS Group (a DWP approved Kickstart Gateway), Richard will manage the entire funding application process on behalf of the club. As part of the funding, successful candidates will also have access to a broad range of online courses offered covering topics such as customer service and health & safety. For greenkeeping-based positions, they will also be offering their new range of module-level courses encompassing turfgrass fundamentals through to identification of turf diseases. Suitable positions at golf clubs could include: Seasonal Greenkeepers On-course drinks and Cart Staff Front-of-House Food & Beverage positions Kitchen Assistants Office Administration and Sales roles Golf Operations Assistants Richard said: “Golf Clubs need to fully utilise the various government employment initiatives that are in place. Kickstart is one such initiative that, from my experience of managing golf clubs, is almost tailor made for the industry. Historically, I think the administrative burden of applying for funding has always been difficult for Golf Club’s. The LSS Group can now undertake this on behalf of the golf club – pooling applications across multiple clubs.” The funding application process started in January, with successful clubs expected to be able to start recruitment from March/April.
