The Club:

Walmer and Kingsdown Golf Club is situated just two miles south of Deal on the south-east coast of Kent. Known as the “Club on the Cliffs”, WKGC is a long-established private members club since 1909. Known for its friendly welcome to members and visitors alike and its nearly all year-round playability on our 18-hole course. The Club has recently installed a state-of-the-art indoor golf studio and is passionate about delivering a first-class course maximising its unique location and views.

With around 600 playing members, we maintain an active social calendar that includes themed evenings, quizzes, Sunday lunches and more.  Our Clubhouse offers picturesque views and features a bar and dining area with capacity of approximately 100 diners.

The Vacancy:

The Club is currently restructuring to reflect the changing needs of a modern golf club. This has led to an exciting and challenging opportunity for an experienced General Manager. This new position will head the management team and service providers to ensure effective delivery of the club’s aims and objectives.

The Role


  • Day to day management of the Clubs operations in accordance with the Clubs Articles and Policies
  • Leading and motivating a team of staff and service provides to deliver a first-class course and environment for members and visitors to enjoy
  • Ensuring the Club and its employees are compliant with all relevant legislation and regulations including H&S, Employment, Environmental and Licensing.
  • Managing relationships with third party providers of goods and services
  • Provide support to the Board of Directors, driving forward their strategic vision for the Club
  • Manage all administrative and finance operations within the Club
  • Encourage and foster good communication between the Club management and its members and guests
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays

The Candidate

The Candidate would have:

  • Proven experience in a similar role, either as a General Manager or Secretary, preferably in a members’ club.
  • Strong leadership skills and be pro-active in recognising opportunities for improving methods of operation enhancing new technology
  • An ability to communicate internally and externally and represent the Club at all levels
  • Have an approachable style with high standards of integrity and diplomacy
  • Proficiency in IT systems, especially BRS and Clubv1
