Legislation Change to Outdoor Smoking Areas

The government, earlier this week, tabled an amendment to the current legislation on smoking outdoors. The changes will mean that premises with outdoor areas must offer separate seating for smokers and non-smokers. A complete ban on smoking outside was considered, but rejected in favour of the changes which will include: -
  • No smoking signs to be displayed in the designated area.
  • No ash trays to be provided or left in the no-smoking area
  • A minimum of 2 metres, if possible, should separate the smoking and non-smoking areas.
