Do you fancy getting involved in friendly, but very competitive, golf matches playing for the GCMA England or UK team? Get in touch with GCMA English match co-ordinator Cameron Dawson Former GCMA captain, and now the association's English match co-ordinator, Cameron Dawson has an update for anyone interested in representing the England or UK teams this year: Whilst the association's golf matches are undoubtably enjoyable, the networking both on and off the course never stops. It is great to hear how colleagues in other countries and environments manage their businesses and how they deal with all sorts of issues. With the exception of the Swedish fixture, the matches are played over Sunday and Monday, meaning you only need one day, or two at most, away from the office. The fixtures below are all GCMA England matches, with the exception of the Swedish match, which will be a UK team. All abilities are welcome, and we select the teams to reflect the membership demographics, so the majority of players for each match will be serving managers. I have been holding back asking for players for this year’s matches until we had a confirmed date for the inaugural match against the Netherlands, which will hopefully be in early June over two days in or around Amsterdam. Unfortunately, those dates are still to be nailed down, but I wanted to start gathering names for the teams, especially for the Ireland match, which is only 12 weeks away. As previously circulated, this year’s match details are: Ireland Away Powerscourt EstateSun 14 - Mon 15 May | 12-a-side Netherlands Away Amsterdam areaEarly June - two days (Sun/Mon) | TBC Wales Away Pyle & KenfigSun 16 - Mon 17 July | 16-a-side Scotland Home HeskethSun 30 - Mon 31 July | 16-a-side Sweden Home Scarcroft, Ilkley & MoortownTue 29 - Thur 31 August | 12-a-side* * After the success of our match over there in 2022 and the positive responses received from both teams, particularly around the educational aspect of each day, discussions about making it 16-a-side are ongoing. We select a team from all the home nations for this match and ask for interest from all members irrespective of home country. As I am sure you will appreciate, it is becoming more and more difficult to get decent hotels at reasonable rates, but so far the following accommodation deals have been agreed, and I hope this helps when making your decision: Ireland The Martello Hotel, Bray - some apartments sleeping up to 4 and some twin rooms. 3 nights have been booked and the cost will be under £75 pp/pn B&B. Wales Premier Inn, Bridgend - 2 nights some twins but mainly singles with a room cost of around £70 room only per night. Scotland The Waterfront Hotel, Southport (formerly Bliss) - a mixture of singles and twins at £100/£140 respectively per room/pn B&B. I am in negotiation with a Leeds city centre hotel for the Sweden match, and I will confirm arrangements for the Netherlands match in due course....
