Professional Development Manager Gareth Morgan discusses the Advanced Management’s Programme’s Health and Safety Management Certificate, delivered in Oxford earlier this month.
It was very apparent from early on that all the delegates undertaking the Health and Safety Management Certificate harboured a genuine desire to use the three days together to upskill themselves in what is a vitally important area.
We knew from their pre-course information that the delegates may have had quite different career histories and widely varying levels of responsibility regarding health and safety within those careers, but their eagerness to learn was striking.
While some delegates had specific concerns about their club’s existing arrangements and were seeking guidance on areas for improvement, others felt more assured about their practices but wanted the credibility of formal training to support that assertion.
The trainers delivering the course stuck to the criteria of the IOSH Managing Safely Certificate, with delegates able to achieve this qualification after the three-day workshop, a final exam and a short workplace assignment.
It was brilliant to see how well the trainers and delegates worked together to ensure that the fundamentals of the IOSH certificate were discussed and absorbed in a context that was relevant for the role of a Golf Club Manager.
We found the learning did not finish at 5 o’clock every day and delegates took the opportunity to relax and dine together in the evening. This social interaction element is a great added-value feature of our Advanced Management Programme Certificate courses, where matters pertaining to the day’s learning and so much more besides are discussed.
