Poole sweeps the board at GCMA National Golf Day

This year’s GCMA National Golf Day saw the beautiful Bristol & Clifton host the annual event on August 5, and it proved to be an exciting outing for all attendees... Sam Poole swept the prizes at an excellently presented Bristol & Clifton for the GCMA National Golf Day. The Didsbury player refused to let some damp conditions get to him as he claimed both the Greenshields Memorial Trophy and the Foundation Cup. His gross 71 saw him clinch the former, ahead of the previous holder – North Downs Ian Slater – who came in with 74. Dave Smith, of Boyce Hill, was third with 78 and just beat Newport’s Reece Miller with a better back nine. Poole’s tremendous round converted into a nett 67 for Foundation Cup glory – one shot ahead of Long Ashton’s Gareth Morgan, who pipped Ian McMahon, of Winter Hill, also by one stroke. With a total of 28 competing players and nice a mixture of handicaps, this year’s GCMA National Golf Day proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable day for all attendees with some fantastic scorecards posted.
