Meet new Director Martin Robinson

Introducing the Hurston Hall Golf & Country Club Managing Director, who is a new addition to our Board of Directors.

New Director Martin Robinson brings a wealth of experience to the table and he is proud to step into the role.

The Managing Director at Hurston Hall Golf & Country Club is a long-serving GCMA member with vast knowledge of the golf industry.

We caught up with Martin to see how he is planning to bring his expertise to bear for the benefit of our members.

What does it mean to you to be appointed Director?

I have been a member of the GCMA for many years. The GCMA has been a huge support mechanism in my career progression over the years and to now be appointed as a Director makes me very proud.

Can you tell us a little more about your career background?

I have over 26 years’ experience in the golf and leisure industry and have held the position of General Manager in most of my roles. I have worked across a range of leisure businesses from first-class member-owned clubs, family-owned estates and large commercial operations including:

Hurston Hall Golf & Country Club (Managing Director)

Clitheroe Golf Club (General Manager)

American Golf Leisure (UK Sales & Operations Manager)

Fairhaven Golf Club (General Manager)

Gainsborough Golf Club – PING Europe (General Manager)

Caversham Heath Golf Club (General Manager)

Kirkby Lonsdale Golf Club (General Manager)

Marsden Park Golf Club (General Manager)

I have been a GCMA members for many years and currently sit on the Northwest GCMA Planning Committee. In previous years I was responsible for the GCMA ‘Young Managers Group’ North of England Region, presented at the GCMA Conference in 2015 and 2017, and was nominated and final-four shortlisted for Golf Club Manager of the Year in 2017.

What can GCMA members expect from you in the role of Director?

I feel my extensive knowledge in the golf industry will enable me to professionally contribute and support the GCMA’s strategic objectives, which in turn will offer continued support for club managers within the organisation or for those looking to join.

What are you most looking forward to?

I am looking forward to finding out how the GCMA operates as an organisation, not only from a strategic level but from an on-the-ground club level.

How would you summarise the importance of the GCMA?

The GCMA is an important organisation that offers a fully rounded support mechanism for club managers through training, development, advice and ensures the wellbeing of its members is at its forefront. The GCMA also offers members access to a complete library of information and preferred suppliers to further support their members.

Tell us something that your fellow GCMA members don’t know about you…

I am the father of two girls who are now showing an interest into golf, which is music to my ears!
