‘You’ll learn a lot that you can put into practice straight away’

Chris Ingram has been putting what he learned on our Principles course into action at his golf club in Norfolk.

Bawburgh Golf Club and its members have felt the benefit of Golf Director Chris Ingram’s decision to undertake our Principles of Golf Club Management course.

Chris attended the one-week course in October last year and has been applying what he learned to his role at the Norfolk venue.

“I wanted to get a better understanding of golf club management and pick up some useful skills for my role at Bawburgh,” he said. “The course seemed like a good way to learn from experts and apply what I learned directly to my job.

“It was really helpful and covered everything I needed to know, and the examples made it easy to understand. For the price, it was definitely worth it.

“I learned a lot about planning long-term for the club. I’ve used that knowledge to help with budgeting and improving membership services at Bawburgh.”

About GCMA Principles of Golf Club Management course

The one-week Principles of Golf Club Management course will provide you with the knowledge and resources to understand the numerous areas of control that a Golf Club Manager requires.

It aims to inform you of crucial legislative processes, employment and Health & Safety principles, along with the many varied roles and responsibilities that the modern Golf Club Manager needs to have at their fingertips.

Run by the GCMA, this course has been running in excess of 30 years and is a recognised standard within the golf industry and by golf clubs and recruiters as essential education for new managers, heads of department and assistants seeking career progression or those from outside of the industry seeking a change in career path.

“Professional development is really important to me,” he said. “The GCMA offers great opportunities, whether it’s courses, events, or just staying up-to-date with the industry. I definitely feel supported by them in my growth.”

Asked what he would say to anyone considering going through the Principles course, Chris added: “I’d say go for it! It’s a solid course, and you’ll learn a lot that you can put into practice straight away.
