GCMA Mentors will play a crucial role in the future of golf club management and the first six were unveiled by GCMA Chief Executive Tom Brooke at Conference... Six GCMA Mentors, who will support the next generation of golf club managers, have been revealed. Foxhills’ Chris Fitt, Boyce Hill’s Scott Clark, Denham’s Richard Penley-Martin, Chigwell’s Ben Driver, Portmarnock’s Andrew Whitelaw, and Golf at Goodwood’s Gary Beves came through an exacting interview process to be chosen as the first intake. Announcing their selection in his keynote speech at GCMA 2021 Conference, Chief Executive Tom Brooke said: “This is about supporting leading golf club managers within our Association to develop themselves as individuals, develop their own communication and leadership skills, and in doing that support the next generation of golf club managers through the mentor programme so we're providing some fantastic succession planning and really looking after the future of our profession.” The GCMA Mentor programme will help the sextet develop leadership, communication, and coaching skills as they take on the role of guiding future leaders. They will be responsible for assisting the development of up-and-coming golf club managers and those new to the industry looking to progress their careers and become the managers of the future. The Mentors will also be involved in group and one-to-one sessions as well as the GCMA’s education programme. They are scheduled to meet for the first time in the New Year. Tom added: “This has been a really robust programme that we've been planning for the last 12 months. I'm really looking forward to working [with the Mentors] as a team to further develop our professional and personal development programme and to start growing that programme for the next generation of leaders in the industry. “What a powerful and impactful project that's going to be for us and something to be really proud of as we move forward.” Read more about the GCMA Mentor programme here.
