The government have confirmed that parents on statutory maternity and paternity leave who return to work in the coming months after a long period of absence will be permitted to be furloughed, despite the scheme closing to new entrants by the end of June.

This will only apply where they work for an employer who has previously furloughed employees.

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme will close to new entrants on 30th June, and any new furloughs had to have been registered by 10th June.  Further details are expected to be announced shortly.
